Based on the masterpiece in literature by Nikos Kazantzakis, this movie adaptation is genuinely re-creating in moving pictures the legendary character of Zorbas. Just like the ancient heroes' of the ancient times, Zorbas’ personality radiates an attitude of openness and readiness for the adventures for life which rarely can be encountered in the gallery of the western heroes. Zorba’s lessons about ‘ceasing the day’ are as valid today as they were in the beginning of the twentieth century.

The movie is preceded by comments from spiritual points of view and is followed by debate.
